SERMON/MESSAGE (2016)

A short sermon for Cosmos Sunday by Anne Lanyon, Coordinator of the Centre for Peace, Ecology and Justice, and Deputy Director at the Columban Mission Institute. Anne invites us to take a step back, or perhaps up. To reflect on our place in the cosmos. She suggests that all we now know about the cosmos invites us to a more humble, less human-centred view of our place in creation.

DISCUSSION STARTERS (2016)

1. How does a 21st Century cosmology influence your image of God?
2. What does God becoming incarnate in the world mean for all of Creation?
3. Does this change the way you think about Jesus Christ? How?
4. What does this mean for the role of humans in the world?
5. Carl Sagan reflected, “In our obscurity, in all this vastness, there is no hint that help will come from elsewhere to save us from ourselves.” 2000 years ago the first Christians were sure that Christ was coming, and day, to do just that. How do you respond now?

SERMON/MESSAGE (2013)

Win Howard, a lay preacher and lecturer in astronomy outlines the many conditions necessary for human life on Earth.

Agape Insitori's video showing the size of the universe- it's really, really big!

This would make a good intro to worship, with or without sound.
