Discussion starters from sermon/message

DISCUSSION STARTERS (2015)

1. Take time to recall a moment of connection with Earth from your childhood. If you would like, and there is time, share this memory.

2. For a cancer cell endless growth in a finite world leads to death. Is unending growth progress or suicide?

3. Name one implication for yourself, for your faith community.

4. If this requires change, what support would you need to begin?

SERMON/MESSAGE (2012)

This starts with some basic ecology, or Earth economics: we are using resources faster than they can be replenished. And we are not all using them equally. We then begin to respond to these two simple, but earth shattering truths as Christians, something we will continue over the next four weeks.

ALL AGES TALK (2012)

Based on the "If the Earth" reading under "other resources" below. To God, the Earth is like a ball floating in a (stellar) field. What does God think when gazing down on our planet? "God out there" is of course only one metaphor for God. Susan Wickham has prompted me to try for a more "God within" metaphor on Animals Sunday.

SONGS

The new president of the Uniting Church wrote this song back in the 80s. Just invite people to listen to the first time, but if you use it each week people should pick it up. It ends with the question, "Where are the visions of hope for the Earth?".

Genesis 1:1-25
Psalm 33:1-9
Romans 1:18-23
John 1:1-14

READINGS

The Genesis 1 creation story
Let all the Earth revere God!
God's passionate and just anger rages from heaven
